Whose the nerd?

My name is Jenn,

and I’m a CTS-Certified AV Professional!

I’m an Associate in the AV discipline with Shen, Milsom & Wilke. As a consultant, I work on designing and coordinating AV systems from budgets and conceptual/schematic design through construction documentation and administration.

Although I’ve kind of fallen into audio-visual, I feel a passion for giving back to the industry. Empowering women and increasing opportunities for diverse professionals within the industry is very important to me.

You may find me most active on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. I’m also an active member of the AVIXA Diversity Council and Women’s Council.

As a passion project, many of my content initiatives are geared towards invisible diversity, as mental health advocacy is very important to me.

Making Sense of my CV…

What is Media Arts & Design?

Media arts and design is the study of human communication through various mediums.

Media arts and design strategists are concerned with how to convey a message with the right choice of tactics, design, and strategy. This may be done through the selection of a platform (social media, newsletter, film, audio, etc.), layout, color, spacing, motion, and more.

What’s Corporate Media Writing?

Corporate media writing is "writing to convey the values and goals of a company," says Kristin Espelan, the former Director of Corporate Communications for The MDNY Group.

Examples include public relations, media relations, marketing communications, or business communications for internal purposes (newsletters, in-house magazines, or email updates) or external purposes (financial statements, annual reports, opinion pieces, or policy statements).

What’s Rhetoric?

The art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques.

Just promise to use your powers for good. Rhetoric gets a bad name, yet it's pivotal to marketing and communications.

What is Sociology?

First, it is not social work. Sociology is the study of society. Through qualitative and quantitative methods of research, these social scientists are interested in social order, acceptance/deviance, and social change. I’ve been very drawn to social psychology, and my studies during my masters degree focused on relationships between retail workers and customers and also the social construction of gender.

What is AV?

Audiovisual systems, in a nutshell is the technology used to help communicate and create an audio and visual experience. System designs will vary depending on the vertical (such as healthcare, education, corporate, financial, live performance, museums, etc.).

What About Outside of Work?

In my spare time you can catch me learning something new, hiking, camping or baking!

Right now if I’m not working on content creation projects, then I’m working on helping my friend engineer a Raspberry Pi powered and automated drip irrigation system for a vegetable garden.
